Inch by inch it's a cinch

Anyone who has ever attempted to live by the above idiom has no clue how painful the process is when you take it almost literally. So what has happened in the last 28 days?; a little and a whole lot all at once. July 4th 2009, I took my first running steps since the beginning of March. My first workout would make "Gallowalking"(Google it: http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=Gallowalking&btnG=Search&meta=) or the "Running Room" training programs appear overwhelming. I am not trying to take away from either of those programs, but when you once ran 180-200km per week, going out for 2 X 24 seconds (with 30 seconds walking between) was not extraordinary. However, I knew I had to take these baby steps in order to regain my form.
My progress has been slow, methodical, and pleasurable. I have slowly increased the volume to the point where today I ran 10 X 2'/30" which gave me a total of 20' of running. Yes, there were breaks and yes my heart rate was higher than most of the cyclist hit during the recent Tour de France, but I am progressing. My left leg does not feel perfect, but it does not feel near as bad as it once did. The best part of today's run was that each step was in my home away from home: Bechtel Park! I have run in Bechtel Park every summer since 1993. Where do I go from here; continued slow and steady progress. My hope is one day I will look back at this time as merely a blip in my running career.
Summer is finally here!
